The trullo birthplace of Alberobello has a spectacular amount of trulli that will definitely capture your imagination.  As the trulli grew in popularity they spread beyond the boundaries of Alberobello and can be found in other areas of the Itria Valley now.

The trulli of Alberobello is a UNESCO world wonder, and it isn't hard to see why.  They can be found as far as the eye can see.  It's always worth noting the different pinnacles and symbols that are sometimes whitewashed onto the roofs as these images have some magical and mystical meanings from old and new religions that just add to the charm of these great little houses.

Traditionally built completely out of local limestone without mortar the thick layered walls are great at keeping out the heat in the summer and keeping in the warmth during the winter.  With its outer walls white washed twice a year these cottages are beautiful to look at and surprisingly spacious to stay in.
